Aelian-The Macedonian Fly
Wild child of the Roman empire, Aelian was the first person to write a detailed description of fly fishing and he also gave us the first detailed description of a fly. The most amazing thing about this pattern is not that it is two thousand years old, but that it is just as deadly as it was in antiquity. In this video, Andrew Herd ties the fly and then takes us down to the water to catch fish with it.
Aelian is featured in Andrew's book The History of Fly Fishing, which is the most comprehensive history of fly fishing available today. You can order the book by visiting this link.
